If you receive cash payments, you will probably be asked to provide a receipt at some point. We've created a couple different printable receipt forms as well as free receipt templates for Excel. If you are a landlord or a tenant wanting your landlord to give you a receipt, the Rent Receipt Template can come in handy. We also have a generic Cash Receipt Template which you can customize to fit your specific need.
Printable Receipt Forms
The printable receipt form files listed below are in PDF format, so you'll need Adobe Reader to view and print these files. The receipt forms are designed so that a value you enter in one receipt is also entered into the other 2 receipts on the page. You can either complete the entire receipt for a single transaction (with copies for you and the customer) or you can just fill in your "Received by" info and print a bunch of blank receipts with your specific contact information.

A general cash payment receipt form (3 receipts per page) for payments made by cash, check, or money order. Includes a Balance Due section.
- Rent Receipt Form (.pdf)
A blank rent receipt form (3 receipts to a page) with editable fields. Print as a blank rent receipt form, or fill in the information you want to have printed.

Rent Receipt Template
The Rent Receipt Template lets you print rent receipts for payments made by cash, check, or money order. The information can either be pre-populated, or you can print a bunch of blank receipts.
The receipt template contains two separate worksheets for listing the rental payment period in two different ways. In the first worksheet, you enter the rental period as a begin date and end date. In the second, you specify the billing period (monthly, bi-weekly, etc.) and choose the starting date.
The rent receipt and cash receipt templates both include a formula derived by Vertex42.com that automatically converts the numeric amount to words.

Using Our Receipt Templates
Print Receipts on Perforated Paper - Our 3-to-a-page receipt forms and receipt templates are designed for printing on Perforated 8.5" x 11" Paper (1 col x 3 rows). You can order paper from PerforatedPaper.com or some other office supply or paper supply company (Vertex42.com is not affiliated with perforatedpaper.com).
Customize the Receipt - Fill in the Received By information prior to printing blank receipts to save time when writing receipts by hand. You can also insert your company logo into the template. If you are a landlord, you may want to save a copy of the rent receipt template for each contract that you have, customized with the tenants information, payment periods, etc.
Are Rent Receipts Required? - You should check your local laws, but normally a check acts as a receipt. A landlord doesn't usually have to provide a receipt, although a renter should always request a receipt for payments by cash. A landlord may be required to give a written receipt for deposits or payments made before the tenant moves in.
Copies of Receipts - If you want to save duplicate or triplicate copies of the receipts, you can customize the template so that the cells/fields in the second 2 receipts refer to the values listed in the first receipt. Then, when you print the page, you'll have a couple "carbon" copies.
Donation Receipts - We haven't created a receipt template specifically for charitable donations. There are specific laws regarding receipts for tax-deductible charitable contributions. See Written Record of Charitable Contribution at irs.gov and IRS publication 1771.
